Here are some of the best autumn foliage viewing spots in Toyama Prefecture. From September to November, you can enjoy autumn foliage in various areas of the prefecture. Please feel free to use this list for reference on your trip.

    Best time to see the leaves: Mid- to late September

    The view of the mountain surface dyed bright red is breathtakingly beautiful. The turning of the autumn leaves is posted on the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route official website in real time every year.
     

  • Midagahara, Tateyama

    Midagahara, Tateyama

    Best time to see the leaves: Late September to early October

    The plants throughout the wetlands change color. From Midagahara, you can see the Tateyama Mountain Range, which also becomes snow capped around the same time.
     

  • Daikanbo/Kurobedaira, Tateyama

    Best time to see the leaves: Late September to mid-October

    From the terrace above the clouds at Daikanbo, you can see the beautiful brocade-colored autumn leaves. The route heading from Ichinokoshi to Higashi Ichinokoshi is directly below the ropeway (Daikanbo to Kurobedaira Station). This route is a popular course as it allows visitors to walk among the vibrantly colored trees.

You can see a variety of trees, including mountain maples, maple trees, ginkgo trees, and Japanese wax trees. The temple is also famous for its Zen dojo.

    Approximately one-third of the park's total area is a water moat, making it a castle ruins park that’s unique even in Japan. It is famous as a natural park full of rustic beauty, and the contrast between the white fountain and the red and yellow of the colored trees is a wonderful sight.
