Unazuki Onsen

Unazuki Onsen is one of the most popular hot-spring resorts in Toyama Prefecture, accessible by car and also by train. It is located about three hours from Tokyo and one hour from Kanazawa by train. Known for its beautifying waters, your skin will feel silky smooth after a soak.

The Kurobe Gorge Railway operates here, with sightseeing trains that run between Unazuki Station and Keyakidaira Station, another attraction of the area.

At Unazuki-Onsen Station, there’s also a bench decorated to look like a miniature train, where you can take some fun photos.

The sightseeing trains passing through the gorge make for picturesque photos, and there are many different vantage points from which you can take pictures. Enjoy taking a stroll and enjoying the natural scenery while you watch the trains go by.

You can see their attention to detail throughout, making a visit to this ryokan’s hot spring a truly luxurious experience that is not to be missed.

If you visit Unazuki Onsen, you can’t miss the local gem that is Cafe Baked Shou. The handmade pizzas, which are baked to order by the owner, are especially delicious, with firm and chewy dough that will knock you off your feet. Since the toppings change depending on the day, there’s always something new to try.

The store’s colorful interior and cute displays provide photogenic backgrounds for snapping some pictures for your socials. On top of that, the cafe owner is very friendly and hospitable, so you can expect a warm welcome.

The apple pie here is served in generous portions. If you don’t have room in your stomach for it, you can get it to go.

As you exit Unazuki-Onsen Station, you’ll come across this stylish shop with a memorably minimalist logo right as you exit. You definitely don’t want to miss Alpen Cheesecake, a store newly opened as of February 1, 2020, that offers a new local specialty in Unazuki.

The cheesecakes here are neither baked nor rare, with a divine fluffy texture.

One thing you must try is the phantom Alpen cheesecake, a sweet only sold at the eat-in counter because of its shelf life of just ten minutes. With a melt-in-your-mouth texture, this is truly a fantastic cheesecake that you will be sure to remember. If you want to try one of these beautiful cheesecakes, make sure to stop by early, as they are sold in limited numbers.
