Johana Hikiyama Festival 城端曳山祭

Elegant and magnificent festival in little Kyoto

Known as the little Kyoto of Etchu, Johana hosts this beautiful festival of splendid floats that boasts 300 years of tradition. Bearing statues of deities, meticulously carved and painted floats are paraded through the town. They are led by Iori yatai, which are small floats containing musicians playing Ioriuta (Edo Period folk melodies) on the flute and shamisen. Enjoy watching the magnificent floats and listening to the sophisticated Ioriuta. Savour the elegance of the Etchu Hikiyama Festival, which will make you feel as if you are sitting in a traditional Japanese-style restaurant.
