Tonami Yotaka Festival となみ夜高まつり

Magnificent Yotaka Festival

Yotaka lanterns are paraded through the streets, accompanied by cheers of encouragement from young people and children. The festival mood gets even livelier when the sound of hyoshigi (wooden clappers) and taiko drums echoes across the town with the youthful cheers. Believed to have started in the Taisho Period, this festival asks for a bountiful harvest. It reaches its climax with the spectacular tsukiawase collisions between the huge lantern floats. Come and experience the passion of this night-time festival in Toyama.
