Takaoka Kojo Park (Takaoka Castle Ruins) 高岡古城公園(高岡城跡)
Takaoka's beautiful moated park, famous for cherry blossoms
Located in the center of downtown Takaoka, the ruins of Takaoka Castle, built by Maeda Toshinaga from the second generation of the Kaga Maeda Clan, were turned into a park after the Meiji Period (1868-1912). The castle was abandoned in 1615 after the "one country, one castle" directive, but its beautiful moat and embankments remained and became an enormous 210,000 square meter castle ruin park, where a beautiful natural environment that changes depending on the seasons can be admired. The park is home to an "Artistic Forest" as well as a museum and a zoo, and is loved not just for its abundant natural environment, but also as a place where everyone can relax. Known for its cherry blossoms, the park is very popular with tourists and locals alike and a perfect stop during a walk through downtown Takaoka City.
