Takaoka Tanabata Festival 高岡七夕まつり

The summer night sky festooned with wish-inscribed strips of paper

The festival brings colour to the summer night sky as streets are decorated with 1,000 multicoloured Tanabata streamers of various sizes, the largest of which are 20m high. The festival atmosphere is enhanced by the home-made contributions from locals, ranging from negai-tanzaku (strips of paper with wishes written on them) to handmade paper lanterns. The festival offers many enjoyable attractions, such as the street basketball and dance contests in Suehirocho, cafes and live music in Wing Wing Square, and a folk singing competition at Manyo Garden. Why don’t you join in and create some lovely summer memories?
