Shikibosaikan (The“4 Seasons and Disasters Museum”) 四季防災館
Toyama’s Nature and Disaster History
The Four Seasons Disaster Prevention Center is an experiential learning facility where you can learn about disasters that occur throughout the four seasons, and about the difficulties our ancestors had to overcome. See and learn more about disasters caused by storms and avalanches in spring, and by wind, rain, flowing water, and landslides in summer. For autumn, there are hands-on early stage fire extinguishing and smoke workshops, and for winter, you can learn about yorimawari swell waves and snow in Toyama. Come and view tsunamis and landslides on a 7,7-meter wide screen in the Disaster Prevention Theater. You can also view and experience for yourself earthquakes ranging in intensity from 1 to 7 at the Earthquake Experience Corner. You can also experience realistically three-dimensional simulated tremors of various earthquakes that have really happened, such as the Kobe Earthquake and the Great East Japan Earthquake. You can listen to commentators explain material in great detail in the main building, so please do drop by there. We aim to build a safe and secure regional community by acquiring knowledge about disaster prevention for the citizens of our prefecture and promoting disaster awareness and education by sharing this knowledge. We are looking forward to welcoming you in the near future!
