Toyama Castle Park 富山城址公園

An urban oasis and a popular spot for spring cherry blossoms

Toyama Castle Park is located in the center of Toyama, on the site of the former Toyama Castle, constructed in 1543. The vast park is a popular oasis for recreation in the city. Toyama Castle was the residence of the ruling Maeda family for much of the Edo period (1603–1867). The main keep has been reconstructed and houses a museum with displays about the castle’s history.

In spring, cherry blossoms bloom over the ramparts and the moat. Visitors to the park can enjoy picnics under the blossoms, and take boat cruises along the Matsukawa River, which runs along one side of the park.

A traditional-style Japanese garden is arranged around a pond with pleasant walking paths. The Sato Memorial Museum of Art features a collection of Asian art and artifacts, along with two traditional tea rooms. At the Toyama Tourist Information Center in the park, visitors can get information about Toyama, and try on samurai armor.
